Rhinoceros - Level 1

Overview

This course offers an introduction to Rhinoceros, with emphasis on workflows for three dimensional (3D) modelling using Rhino commands with a basic introduction to the Grasshopper plugin.

The course will cover basic 2d drawing, tracing & drafting techniques & their application to creating 3d form & surfacing. It will include a practical guide to creating models for 3D printing & getting those files printed.

The course will encourage interdisciplinary projects covering a number of industries; sessions will be delivered with diversity in approaches ranging from demonstrations & practical work.

Course content

Introduction to the interface and navigation of Rhino 3D
Drawing, creating and editing geometry using curves, arcs and using 2D Rhino commands
Methods of generating 3D geometry and editing tools
Use of Rhino for creating sculptural forms
Basic introduction to the principles of Grasshopper and parametric design tools
Creating forms for 3D printing & options for getting files printed

The course will suit people who are interested in developing 3D computer-aided modelling & design skills using Rhinoceros. The course focuses on workflows for creating 3D modelling techniques, so will suit users across a range of industries.

Outcome

You will be familiar with basic skills and terminology for 3D modelling with Rhinoceros. You will be able to apply your knowledge and skills you leant in this course to confidently create 3D forms within Rhinoceros.

Pre-requisites

Basic computer skills are essential. Must be comfortable using software, navigating the internet & be able to use file storage networks.
No prior knowledge of this software is required.
