Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for Fashion - Introduction

Overview

The aim of this course is to introduce the use of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator specifically for the fashion and textile industry. It will include new techniques and skills in the use of both these programs to develop artwork relevant to fashion and textile design. The course concentrates on beginner level learning.

The course is best suited to those who are currently working or plan to work within the Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industry.

Outcome

By the end of this course, participants will have a good knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Pre-requisites

Participants in this short course need to have good practical knowledge of general computer skills. Understanding of file saving and file archiving using My Computer is also required.

Additional notes

To help create more fluently run classes and due to the complexity of the Adobe programs it is suggested participants have access to the programs outside of the course nights to practice building their skills. This course is conducted on PC computers however MAC users can bring their own laptop along as the software is the same on both platforms.

Janette Wotherspoon

Janette Wotherspoon has been working and teaching in the Fashion and Textile industry for more than 20 years, initially teaching Design, Dressmaking and associated Clothing Industry programs at Melbourne Institute of Textiles where she also taught the CAD program, Primavision.
For the last 14 years Janette has been at RMIT University teaching Adobe software and other Computer Aided Design (CAD) related courses to Diploma, Degree and Masters programs within the School of Fashion and Textiles, as well as customised training for Industry, teaching design and administration staff at many of Melbourne’s well known Fashion and Textile companies.
Janette has recently undertaken Adobe Train the Trainer qualifications and is a registered member of the Adobe Education Exchange and campus leader in Adobe Software awareness training.
Janette continues to combine her passion for Fashion, Textiles, Craft and Visual art into her own art and design practice. Her work is focused on developing new design applications and techniques for fashion, textiles and accessories using original artwork and sustainable practice. She works in partnership with another printmaker to produce a range of screen printed fabrics and limited edition women’s fashion garments.
