Product Knowledge Workshops in Textiles

Overview

RMIT is again presenting its highly acclaimed Workshops in Textile Product Knowledge. The workshops have been specifically designed for current and newly appointed TCF staff wishing to improve their technical knowledge and gain a wider appreciation of the many facets of the total 'textile pipeline' from fibres to fashion.

Course content

Day 1 - Monday 29 June 2020:Textile Fibres & Yarn Technology
Day 2 - Tuesday 30 June 2020: Knitted and Woven Fabrics
Day 3 - Wednesday 1 July 2020: Garment Technology
Day 4 - Thursday 2 July 2020: Colour Science, Dyeing, Printing and Fabric Finishing
Day 5 - Friday 3 July 2020: Care Labelling, Testing/Fastness and Specifications

Students can enrol for all five days or any number of individual days.

These workshops are tailored for Textile, Clothing and Fashion (TCF) personnel:

  • Current employees with merchandising, colour, fashion &design skills, requiring a technical understanding & communication skills to source a specific style, quality or production technique in a proposed garment range.
  • Current employees wishing to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the many facets of the total textile pipeline.
  • People wanting to enter, or engage with, TCF industry.

It is recommended that students complete Day 1 before doing Day 2, it is recommended that Day 1 & 2 are done consecutively.

More information

Outcome

  • Practical understanding of knit & weave processes and fabrics, including properties & qualities, wear performance and assessment methods.
  • Basic principles of colouration of textile materials either by dyeing or printing, including heat transfer and digital printing.
    Laboratory testing, hands on textile testing and analysis of physical and colourfastness properties.
  • Communicate with suppliers with appropriate terminology, describe various garment construction processes with correct terminology.

Participants will be emailed an RMIT Certificate of Participation after completion.
