How to be a Personal Stylist

Overview

Learn about being an interpreter of fashion and how to advise others on what to wear & how to wear it to fabulous effect, from a professional industry-renowned stylist. Want guidance on how to style your Spring Racing Carnival outfit from top to toe? Do you appreciate a great sense of style and want to advise others on how to 'wear it well'? Then this is the course for you. This course is ideal for retail assistants who want to finesse their techniques for offering fashion advice to customers, or for people who want to learn more about their own personal style and how to get the most from it.

Course content

The course will include learning in the following areas:

  • Communicating ideas and making suggestions using appropriate language and terminology
  • Understanding peoples needs and wants
  • Learning fundamentals of dressing for different body shapes
  • A shopping trip to a well known shopping centre where you will have the opportunity to style a volunteer client. You will be shown what a personal stylist looks for when dressing a client & interact with a client.
  • Coverage of achieving successful styling of Spring Racing Outfits will be included in this course

Ideal for people wanting to improve their personal styling abilities either for the work environment, such as fashion retail assistants and want-to-be personal shoppers, or for personal reasons, such as wanting to explore their own personal style and grow confidence in experimenting with fashion.

Outcome

Students will gain confidence in how to communicate fashion ideas with others and how to put together stylish looks for optimum outcomes.

Rachel Howard

Rachel’s career in Fashion Styling spans over a decade and has taken her across Australia, The UK and The Netherlands. She worked as a Personal Stylist for Westfield Shopping Centres and styling consultancy, ID Couture. Rachel has styled runway shows, fashion events, styling workshops, television shows, photoshoots and editorial publications. She has collaborated with large creative teams and has extensive experience in fashion, home and product styling. Rachel has also worked as a Visual Merchandiser for iconic national and international brands, travelling and managing national execution of creative concepts. She is now a freelance Fashion Stylist/ Creative Director and writes fashion articles for various online platforms. Rachel has an affinity for styling aesthetics and is passionate about using clothing as a tool for self-expression.
