NAATI Certified Interpreter Test Preparation Course (Mandarin)

Overview

This course is designed to prepare candidates to sit the NAATI Certified Interpreter test (Mandarin). Throughout your course you will practice interpreting and role plays. You will learn strategies to deal with the different formats of the test.

This course is suitable for learners who need to improve interpreting skills and who require more confidence with understanding the requirements of the NAATI test.

This is also recommended to people interested in becoming an interpreter in the future, and for those who would like to get a glimpse of the NAATI test. 

Course content

  • Learn skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to interpret in dialogue, sight translation, chuchotage, and in consecutive speech settings.
  • Understand the dynamics of communication settings in interpreting.
  • Learn memory, comprehension and note-taking skills.
  • Learn discourse management skills in dialogue settings.
  • Learn knowledge of test-taking techniques specific to NAATI test.

Ideal for

Test candidates who have met the training requirements to sit a NAATI Certified Interpreter test.

The Intensive Course is designed for students who have an intermediate or above level of English and LOTE, and who are planning on taking the NAATI Certified Interpreting test in the near future.

Important Information

This is not a replacement for tertiary qualifications. Completing this course will not be enough to satisfy the training requirements to access NAATI certification testing.

Outcome

You will improve your general level of interpreting skills, both in terms of accuracy and fluency, as well as prepare for and practise the skills and techniques of the exam in order to achieve your full potential. By the end of the course, you will learn skills and techniques to interpret in dialogue, sight translation, monologue and chuchotage settings.

Pre-requisites

Test candidates who meet the training requirements to sit a NAATI Certified Interpreter test.

Materials supplied

Extensive resources in interpreting including digital dialogue and consecutive interpreting passages which will be used as a basis of interpreting practice.

Xinyu (Peter) Pei

Mr. Xinyu (Peter) Pei: Peter is a NAATI Certified Mandarin interpreter and Certified Chinese translator (both directions) with extended experience in Public Service settings. Peter has been practising in local and international settings for many years. During his time with RMIT, he has taught translating and interpreting tutorials as well as translating and interpreting skills. Peter is passionate about the training of translators and interpreters and sees each of his students as a future colleague.
